Vernise Snowball (1960) was born in Cape Town. After her marriage in 1986 she moved to Pretoria. Vernise had no formal art training apart from studying under a few well known artists in Pretoria. Her love for art comes from her childhood and was re-kindled later in life when she practiced various forms of crafts. One of her fabric art teachers advised her to rather take lessons in acrylic painting. Three years later she took her teachers advice and started lessons in acrylic painting in 2001. Since then she has worked in different mediums, Oil, Acrylic and mixed medium. Her main interest used to be flowers but she has moved away from just doing flowers and has now started painting various different themes that she feels influence her to become more creative.
Vernise has taken part in various art exhibitions over the last few years and in 2007 had her first solo exhibition; it was a very successful exhibition. ''I believe painting is a discipline, you can't always wait for the inspiration to come, and you have to discipline yourself to paint. Technical ability to apply medium can be learnt, but creativity comes from within. As an artist I believe your surroundings are very important, as it influences your work. When a person is happy in themselves it comes out in your work.” |
